Christmas Trees
Every year, thousands of Christmas trees are discarded that could be recycled. Recycled Christmas trees are converted into mulch, used in sand dune restoration, and used to create fish habitat.

Make recycling your Christmas tree a family tradition. Homes with garbage collection service may have the option to place their trees at the curb for recycling on a specified day. For others drop-off sites are set up throughout the region during the weeks following Christmas.

You must remove everything "unnatural" from the tree: tinsel, lights, ornaments, plastic tree stands and plastic water bowls.

Trees Not Accepted for Recycling.
  • Trees with artificial snow (flocked) are not accepted.
If your neighborhood has a monthly heavy trash day, flocked trees can be placed at the curb on that day.
  • Commercial vendor trees are not accepted.
